Q&A with HWA CO

Got questions? We have the answers.

Do I have to be a member of the parent organization of HWA to be a member of HWA CO?

Yes. As long as you are a member of HWA and are up-to-date with your membership dues, you can request to become a member of HWA CO. We accept all levels of membership. Active memberships are divided into four categories: Active Writer or Editor (voting member), Affiliate Writer, Academic Ally, and Associate Ally.

I haven’t been published yet. Can I still join the HWA?

Yes! HWA offers a Supporting membership option for fans, writers, and artists with an interest in horror and dark literature. This membership comes with all HWA has to offer, and it also qualifies you to join HWA CO.

Is there a fee to join HWA CO?

No. Membership to the chapter is free of charge. However, you must be a current member and your dues must be up-to-date with the parent organization of HWA to be eligible. To join the HWA CO Chapter, send us an email at coloradohorror@gmail.com or fill out our contact form.

I don’t live in or near central Colorado (Denver, Colorado Springs, etc.). Can I still join HWA CO?

Absolutely! We offer membership to all Colorado members of the HWA. We are also excited to work with HWA members who live in nearby regions without a local chapter of their own. We currently meet online and in-person.

Can I be a member of more than one chapter?

Yes. According to HWA, members may join multiple chapters, especially if they travel frequently or are located near two or more chapters. The Colorado Chapter welcomes current members throughout the state of Colorado and in the surrounding regions. Current members may apply to the Colorado Chapter provided they agree to participate in the chapter’s activities.

Since winning the HWA Scholarship in 2016, I’ve become involved in multiple volunteer opportunities with the organization. This has opened doors in both community involvement and international relations. HWA changed my life and put my career on track.
