In Memory of Travis Heermann

Horror Writers Association (HWA), Colorado, mourns the passing of author, filmmaker, and screenwriter, Travis Heermann, a treasured friend and founding member of HWA, Colorado, who will be sorely missed by the writing community. Heerman died Friday, April 26, 2024.

Heermann was a graduate of the Odyssey Writing Workshop, an Active member of Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers Association (SFWA) and the HWA, where he served as an advisor in the Colorado Chapter. He was the author of the Shinjuku Shadows series, Ronin Trilogy, The Hammer Falls, among other novels. More than thirty of his short stories appeared in numerous publications, including Amazing Monster Tales, Apex Magazine, and Tales to Terrify. In 2021, he launched a film production company, Bear Paw Films LLC. Its first project was the award-winning horror comedy short film called Demon for Hire, which debuted in 2022.

Heermann, who was known as hardworking, kind, and generous, often showcased his passion for horror fiction by participating in the larger Colorado literary community. Dependable and sincere, Heermann supported his fellow writers in a variety of ways, including participating in author events, conventions, and writing and critique groups. His efforts in helping found the Colorado Chapter of HWA and his guidance afterwards have made a huge impact on our chapter’s achievements and growth.    

The co-chairs, advisors, and members of HWA Colorado remember Travis Heermann affectionately and with respect. His strong relationship with the HWA and his exceptional talents as a writer will remain a lasting mark on the Colorado writing community.
